And another thing!

Got another Oz story building up in my mind. This one's current working title is "Imposters in Oz." Here's one of the characters; I won't say whether she's a title character or not.

This is my first try with a shading technique Lar DeSouza (a longtime net.friend of mine and the awesome artist of Least I CouldRead more... )

Very coy expression! Loving it. Glad I could help you with my shading suggestions. I'm sure you'll find your own way of making it work for you soon, but this looks very successful.

Thank you for showing it to me! it'll come in very handy when shading Scraps's's's patchwork. You can imagine what a nightmare that is to do in individual colors.

Is there any way to do gradients with the mask technique, or it is on-or-off as it seems to be?

No you can use gradients. You just have to use b&w in the mask layer, so that includes greys. Try shading with a softer brush, or an airbrush as an experiment :) or select areas and put in gradients.

Have fun!
