Dear log:

I am back to school after a pretty sweet break, and instead of feeling that anxious, existential-angsty feeling, I am feeling like when you run beside a train, and then you jump on the train, but it's not a jolt because you've been running beside the train. This IS a metaphor in common use ( Read more... )

NEGGIE YOU LOOK SO fab in that SCARF.

Uh, I recently started YuYu Hakusho... I dunno if that's the type of graphic novel you'd prefer or not though.

Aww thanks.

I don't read a lot of manga, but if I see it in the comic book store I may check it out. :)

I haven't seen you in a long time now (!!) but every picture I see of you reminds me of Dr. Cameron from House (see my icon). Which is a good thing!

Gorgeous scarf!

As for graphic novels, I really enjoyed Nil: A World Beyond Belief by James Turner. Great writing, and the illustrations are perfect for the story.

Wow! That's a pretty rad looking one! It kind of reminds me of Clone High crossed with Jimmy Corrigan! Do you know if our library system has it?

I'm not sure... It's worth checking, but I kind of doubt they do. I borrowed it from Jarrett.

It's likely you'd be able to find it someplace like Turning the Tide, if you were interested in purchasing it (and it's well worth the money!!).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure either there or 8th street books would have it. I will look out for it!

Holy hot scarf. Seriously. That is beautiful.

Graphic novels:
Watchmen (moore and gibbons) - really gritty superhero graphic novel. AMAZING plot and things, though.

I haven't read but can highly recommend Sandman by neil gaiman and illustrated by various people - the one that has yoshitaka amano doing it particularly interests me....

As far as Sandman goes-- I am in love with Dave McKean's work... but I wish he would work more stylistically in the actual comic itself. I keep getting all excited by these great covers/spreads, and then the inside is nothing like what I expected. But I am in the minority, here, because EVERYONE loves the Sandman comics. Perhaps one day I will see the light/fall in love with a particular volume...

Personally in the mature realm of graphic storytelling I'm partial to stuff like 100 Bullets, DMZ, Y: The Last Man and Fables. That stuff reads great in graphic novel form. I've heard Pride Of Baghdad and Chicken With Plumbs are quite good haven't found them as of yet, but the universally good reviews give a good indicator.

I have heard of none of the above (I'm a n00b)... but will probably be checking all of them out. If I remember correctly, you have pretty awesome tastes in comics.

The colours are really autumnal. And I like the blue. Talking about the scarf here xx
