Well, i certainly agree that to acknowledge the existence of something infavourable is better than to deny it. Maybe including that into your essay might make it something special.

Admittedly, saying that a black person is allowed to say something that a white person is not allowed to say is nothing but a new face of racism to me. Certainly not something that will help.
So, since as you said yourself that banning a word will not change anything, working to change the minds and hearts will indeed be the only approach. Those half-hearted "easy" roads that solve nothing at all are in fact in my eyes only contraproductive.
