The wintery weekend was wonderful...

Good times in semi-rural Central Washington this weekend with Ross, Bitta, and the lovely ladies of Intermountain Americorps. Seriously, if you live anywhere within six hours of the WA Hwy 17/Grand Coulee area, you should drive that way and do some hiking. Beautiful vistas and just a peaceful atmosphere ( Read more... )

Speaking of playoffs ... SOOOO happy that Jerome Bettis didn't end his career on a fumble! And speaking of studies - that one (by Bonhoeffer) is supposed to be fabulous. I read "Cost of discipleship" and I'll be honest, I got a little bored because he got a little, um, preachy and repetitive but "Life Together" is supposed to be fabulous. Currently on my reading list (as if you care, but there you go): Searching for God knows what (Donald Miller), The First Four Minutes (Roger Bannister), Pretty Good For a Girl (a biography about some random, obscure college cross country runner that intrigued me). Glad you're back stateside, bro. Blessings to you, prayers for you.

I'd be interested to hear how you thought Cost of Discipleship was preachy. I find that the two books together produce a formidable and mostly coherent theology covering many areas of life in the Church and particularly life in the world. If you ever get to Life Together it's very short but packed full of stuff. Apart from his propensity for absolute statements (which I love rhetorically, but can seem harsh theologically), I am enchanted with how his writings and his life intersect.

Nice reading list (which is always an unspoken thing I'm asking for), but it seems kind of random that you are into reading runners, eh? What about books on swimmers??!! When you finish, let me know what you think of the Don Miller title.

I don't read books on swimmers because there have been about 3 written ... and I've read them all. :-p

sounds nice.
Sometimes there is nothing better than just fond memories of good times with good people. Especially when they are recent.
My sister lives in Seattle and keeps begin me to come back out for a visit. I want to come back out mroe than she knows. We want to go check out some camping and vistas on teh Olympic Peninsula. I think my heart years for that. I have been reveling in my visit to Mt. Ranier for 3 years.

I love reading your posts.

Ooh...the Olympic Peninsula is one of my favorite places, though I only spent a couple days out there. There is one particular lake (the name of which eludes me right now) that is off Hwy 101, going west from Port Angeles but before you reach Mora and the Hoh rainforest. I believe it's a glacier lake, but in the summer it was warm enough for a short dip, and the water was crystal clear. There is a great boulder for jumping off a path leading from the beach, and the entire lake is nestled in between a ring of Olympic mountains.

If you are there at sunset, you will never want to leave the Northwest. Give in to your yearning heart :o)

Thanks for your encouraging words regarding my posts. I enjoy reading yours too, though I am way behind in my reading because of my travels. Have a blessed day!
