I'm leaning towards using, analogously, the accounting method of dealing with "goodwill" which states once goodwill(an intangible) is impaired it can never be brought back up to fair market value. What I mean to say is... once it is lost, can you say the value was ever really there? It becomes meaningless. Implication? I've yet to fall in love =P - JJ.
