I was hangin' with Nate at Palio last night and met his friends Bax and Amber. They have all hiked "The Camino", an apparently very famous pilgrimage trail across Spain. I've always wondered how you deal with the accusation that Americans of your sort (those that criticise so great a nation, or.. the greatest nation) are traitors. ¿Why don't you get out Ramon? [feigned provocation] But perhaps you already are getting out, out there, out of sorts. Are you trying to fix it? [rhetorically] I saw a book on the shelf of the bookstore "Memoirs of an Economic Hitman" I don't know if you've heard of it, but it addresses much of the illegal profiteering that goes on out there.. known or unbeknownst to those of us who might actually care. I'm neither here nor there.. but I am part of that invasion you speak of, from the time of John the Baptist until now.. - JJ =).

Not many people come at me with the, "Why don't you get out?" business. The reason for that is that they have usually heard me comment once or twice on the fact that my ancestors on my mother's side (African American) did not CHOOSE to be here. Normally the "Why don't you get out" comment is accompanied by a guilt trip of you enjoying freedom other people fought and died for. I have responses to that too, dealing with the economic privilege that the US has because of a few centuries of free labor provided by my ancestors and the dubious nature of our "freedom" after the Emancipation Proclamation, and even the Civil Rights Act of 1965. At this point, people are not too interested in pursuing the matter any further ( ... )
