Biking to downtown Bellevue for the first time...

... was surprisingly nice. You could knock me over with a feather.

I took I-90 over, and then went up 108th street in Bellevue. It's a super-quiet, super hilly street. Everyone passed me nicely. I even got waved at by someone who was waiting for me to pass so that they could turn left ( Read more... )

I have 2 theories about this (not that you want to hear them but hey you asked !)

1/ spring in Seattle.
2/ you've just transitioned your life to a new place so you are in a somewhat more open space then usual.

3/(unrelated to the question) I am impressed that you're riding to Bellevue and back !

I'm not sure what you mean by number 2! Do you mean that I'm seeing everyone as nicer than I normally see them?

And thanks. It's a nice ride. I'm hoping to do it 3 times a week. It'll be nice when I take a little less time at it!

No, not necessarily.
I mean that typically when things change in our lives, we tend to be a little more open than normal (you know, like when we move, go to a new country etc...)
There is a sort of energy of "new" that opens up. I don't really know how to describe it, but you probably know what I mean...

They built a bike trail and pedestrian path along the interstate here, and the best thing about it is that it goes over the 90 bridge so that I don't have to go around Lake Washington.

Here's a photo of it from someone I don't know on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jpchamberland/2651959484/

Truthfully, this is why I can't bike to work. There is no way from our house to Fort Lewis that does not involve riding on I-5. (There are even signs explaining where bikes are permitted.) I have to admit that I am just not that brave.
