Surgeon called looks like the should be able to save the leg and just put in a plate and some screws. It is more expensive but on talking to Alex, we think it will be better for her as she will be able to do more.
Cross your fingers and toes that all goes well and they can save the leg and that she heals well.

Poor poor kitty. Even if she does lose the leg, I've known cats with 3 legs that managed to have full healthy lives after the amputation. She'll be okay. *fingers crossed*
