I've had the opportunity to interview a number of people (I'm not a manager, but I'm part of the "people you'll be working with" crowd). It astonishes me how horrible resumes are these days. Heh, I bet you'd hire me! No molecular biology or C++ background at all, but I'm devoted to the Oxford comma! (Although I do occasionally omit it, as suggested by Strunk and White, to suggest a closer linkage between the final two items in a list.)

*grin* I love the Oxford comma, but it's purely personal preference. The co-worker of mine who's just as picky as I about grammar hates it. We agree to disagree.

Wow, those sound totally atrocious. You'd think in this job climate, you'd get better quality in resumes. I don't think your expectations are out of line at all.

Oh, I know. I've just given up expecting a properly proofread resume. It's never going to happen. Even people who are intelligent and turn out to be good coworkers look at me like I have some uncanny power to detect Grammar Fail and also unreasonable expectations. Complete sentences you can decipher the meaning of? Verb tenses that agree throughout a sentence? Such a fuddy-duddy I am.

I've made those complaints in the past myself.. ugh..

No, you are not being harsh.. you will conceivably stuck with this person for a very long time and if they are not up to snuff, there will be problems.
