Gankutsuou Cane Pics

Here are some shots of the cane I just made for my Gankutsuou costume. The top of the cane was cast from an original sculpture and the shaft was made from a pool cue. I sculpted the original by hand from sculpey which I then baked. After baking, I made a mold of it and cast it in friendly plastic.

Nicely done. The cane head needs more blue, but that can be taken care of fairly easily. Keep it up!

Thanks! Originally the green was a perfect match to the picture, but I could only find one exterior gold spray paint and it wasn't as bright yellow as the cane is in the pic, and the two colors didn't look good together. So I changed it to a more subtle jade color. His colors change in every pic, so it doesn't really bother me, as it is pale green in some shots.

It looks great Danny. Did you sculpt the the scroll work as well? What did you use to make a mold of the original?

Man, I've been seeing a lot of great costumes lately and it's driving me crazy that I can't get involved! There's no way I could make anything complex here. I have no idea how Japanese cosplayers do it! Maybe next year we could get a group together!

Thank you! ^____^ I did indeed sculpt the scroll work. I sculpted everything except the pool cue. For the mold, I used this stuff I found at Wal-Mart that was intended to make little plaster casts of babies' hands and feet. It's pretty shitty stuff, and I had to do an INSANE amount of carving, puttying, and sanding to get it looking decent. I don't recommend it.

It would be awesome if we could finally actually get a group together! I'm still sad that I didn't get to finish my Link costume...

The scroll work on the cane is fantastic and the golden coating absolute perfection, what an elegant shine! It looks simply marvelous.
