As promised, here are the things I'm 'working' on at the moment, sewing-wise:
1: Very Hungry Caterpillar tote bag - or something else?
I have these amazing fabric pieces with The Very Hungry Caterpillar on them - thinking of turning them into a tote bag with one picture on each side. I have more of the spotty stuff that's around the outside too that I can make straps from! But what to do with this:
This is the last piece that was part of the print and it's all on its lonesome. So I don't know whether to make something different with it, or whether to combine all three and make one huge bag or what! The pieces are pretty big... way too big to look any good on clothing of any sort, so it's a bag or... I really don't know what else. Any ideas?
2: Anna House OP --> Overskirt + some other bits.
So a while back I bought a lovely one-piece from a seller on egl_sales_comm but it was far too big for me so instead of trying to resell it, I'm taking it apart and using the pieces to make things from. Starting with the skirt part! Here's what I started with:
So I've taken the skirt and most of the midriff section and have removed a large part of the back of the skirt, leaving...
The plan is pretty simple - sew up the sides and add a ruffle where I've cut off the back, maybe in a bit of a curve, maybe not, and then fold over the midriff section and hem that, and maybe move the waist ties to right at the back if I can be bothered. I could just leave them where they are too. Then I should end up with something like...
...only an actual thing and not a picture drawn in 30 seconds, and imagining the purple bits are black and the white bits are an underskirt.
I also cut off the collar and am going to either use that for a dress or coat I make one day or I'll just make it into a detachable collar. It's lovely quality and the shape is awesome so it's definitely a keeper either way. And there's heaps of leftover lace etc which I'm sure I'll use in future. Looking forward to finishing this one as it should be pretty easy but the result should look stunning. I do need an underskirt I can wear it with though!
And finally... 3: Ball gown --> wicked cocktail/party dress!
I bought a gorgeous ball gown at an op shop, only to remember that I may well never go to a ball ever again in my life, and I already have a few nice ball dresses. So this one is going in the experiment basket! I've cut some large pieces out, pinned the main skirt basically in the shape I want it, and am going to add trims, and readjust the built-in petticoat so it sits at the right spot. Might have to add some boning or something to get it to stay in shape too, not sure!
Damn, it's hard to photograph without a mannequin to put it on. Still, there it is.
And that about wraps it up folks! Don't think I should start anything else till I get these things done! Any tips, ideas, etc I would LOVE to hear because I'm still a sewing noob and am likely to do stupid things.
