Some days I'm just really tired of chasing after the American Dream. And it's not necessarily that I just want to give up on everything (though I do feel this way sometimes). It's just that I feel unsettled by the idea that this is all I will contribute to the world. Isn't there something more meaningful I could be doing right now? I could be

It sounds like you aspire to be an activist. Science and Medicine both are fields where morality and ethics come into play. You can still be an activist in the sciences/medicine. The Abortion question, the HPV vaccine, healthcare, lack of primary care docs, etc, are big topics that affect people lives and rights. You still can have your cake and eat it too.
