Here's the blog I intended to put on the graduate school blog. As it was going through the committee, they decided not to put it up ultimately with worries that it would jeopardize my career. So it's going here instead.

Sigh. Silencing the victim is such a powerful thing.

Hang in there. <-- Said because there's a part of you that still cares. And if you don't try, and waste the time, and do your best, you're going to be filled with regret with what could have been, or memories when you look back that haunt you. Until you've given up internally, you can't let your reason give up before your heart. You've invested too much time there already, and you've given up too many alternatives to take it back. So maybe grit your teeth and take it like a soldier. It's an enemy to exterminate, and exterminating it is the only approach you can take toward its unwavering uncompromising barrier between you and the future. Knock it down, grind it to dust, scatter the salt, and till it into the earth to cause the land to be barren for hundreds of years to come. Do what you have to, and maybe, even, make the sacrifices you have to to steel your heart and become an unfeeling drone. You can recover/rediscover who you are later. But in the present, this is the impending enemy that will destroy you unless you overcome it.
