I do, however, like food porn, which Julie & Julia had in spades. The two films started within a few minutes of each other, so we bought tickets, kissed goodbye, and split ( Read more... )

Nine is a musical based on my favorite film of all time, Federico Fellini's 8 1/2. I saw a production that the IU theatre department put on down in Bloomington that I wasn't much a fan of. However, I'll see anything that Daniel Day-Lewis does so we'll see how Nine turns out. I have no interest in the post-apocalyptic animated 9 - I think it looks dumb.

When I got home and read that Nine was about 8 1/2, I was like... "Uh, really?" I had to watch the trailer again and kind of squint at it. I've lost my taste for big budget musicals because of how they tend to sap out the subtlety of a scene. It's hard to pay attention to the artistic angles, thematic elements, etc. while they're shooting sequins out of a cannon at your face. For Nine, I'll be waiting for the DVD (though hell, let me know if it ends up being great).

I'm not really into 9 either, despite the fact that I love post-apocalyptic settings. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I'm lukewarm on it. Then again, I didn't really give a toss about District 9 until I got 10 minutes into it at the theatre and I ended up enjoying it.
