I just discovered the world of Shimejis. And it's such an adorable world.
NOW MY SCREEN IS FULL OF LITTLE BRIEFS NNNNGGGHHH SO ADORABLE
Anyway, I couldn't manage to write it down before, but lately we've tried to make good use of the japanese rice I had brought home from Rome. More practically, we used it to make some onigiri.
I wanted to do it since forever, and it was really a lot of fun! They're pretty easy to make (well, at least theoretically XD), though the whole thing takes a lot of time due to preparing the rice first.
The first time we made an attempt (it was me and my brother) I tried to use the alga nori in the same way I saw it when I had eaten them (so that the onigiri was all covered by it) and failed miserabily.
I kind of totally messed up with the alga, but despite the appearance they were really good!
That time we did only the tuna-mayo version because we were more familiar with this type, but when we tried again a few days later my brother experimented a bit.
They looked definitely more appealing XD (well, kind of)
We still did some tuna-mayo, but we mainly used shrimps and pink sauce. We kept the round shape because it's the easiest to do, though my brother did a couple of triangular ones that were really cute, even if a bit difficult to eat ( I didn't get to try them because my sister claimed the second one. But we can always make them another time!)
My family really liked them -except my little sister who didn't enjoy them very much, but I'm glad they were generally appreciated. (and after all, my little sister liked the ramen I brought back so it's ok XD)
Moral of the story? I definitely didn't bring back enough food. My brother and sisters claim that I bring back more ramen and rice next time. I wasn't sure whether they would have liked this kind of food or not, but now that I know I'll definitely bring home more things XD
