For me, Tumblr is all about the visual with no real opportunity to engage with people, which is why my interest for that platform is quite limited. I enjoy what I find on my dash, of course, but it's completely superficial - or shallow, as you said. I feel like I don't know any of the people who post there and I don't really feel any inclination to do so, anyway. LJ is where I exchange with people - LJ or DW, admittedly. What I do is cross-post, that way I can still talk to people who have permanently moved there. So far, though, I haven't started looking for people who are exclusively on DW so my circle is pretty small on DW, unlike LJ...
Thing is, at the core of it, I'm a really lazy blogger, so the repost aspect of tumblr suits me really well. However, I'm getting increasingly weary of the holier than thou attitude that seems to permeate it, and man, you can tell that a LOT of people who use it are really really young. Nothing wrong with being young, except that, you know, you're gonna act it. I thought stuff I said online when I was 16 was embarrassing, and there are people younger than that as a norm.
Hmm, I think I lost my point somewhere. My point is, that tumblr is pretty and happy-making, but it's also a time-suck and it's purely on a visual level for me, and I kinda miss hearing what people I know of are up to.
Oh and there's something else that drives me CRAZY with Tumblr (and maybe it has to do with the youth of many of its users, when you think of it. Idk.) is that people there don't seem to know the first thing about CITING THEIR SOURCES. It drives me crazy, really...
THIS! Currently reading history and it drives me CRAZY when people talk historical facts that sound awesome but I have no way whatsoever of checking their sources. Or when they post something that's semi-right and lay in their own values to make it awesome, like the situation for women in Sparta.

If I had the time, I guess I'd still hang out on LJ, but time is the key element here, or the sad lack thereof :)
Hope you are well! {{hugs again}}

What's up with you? Was there something in particular why you were offline for so long?
