Really, this watching stuff as it comes out is way overrated, not a lot of posts and no fic as of yet.'

I loved it! It was exactly what I wanted, and I thought it was a really nice sequel to the first one. So many things made me grin like a lunatic, and I loved how they dealt with the story.

(Note. I may be slightly biased since I do love the Star Trek... *g*)

Hmm, I have mixed feelings. I loved all the character moments, that Sulu, Chekov, Bones, Uhura all got their spot in the sun. Scotty was amazing, he both made me laugh and tear up, I swear, when Kirk accepts his resignation, HIS FACE. ;_

I'm not planning to see it, unfortunately. I was really, really excited for it...until I found out That Spoiler, which was a dealbreaker for me. Maybe I'll see it in a second-run theater or stream it on Netflix when it's released on DVD, but I have a pretty hard-line rule about not financially supporting certain things and Into Darkness falls into that category.

That said, I'd be really interested to hear your take on it! I've heard mixed opinions so far...

Hmm, I really mixed about it. I loved it for some great character moments, even though Kirk totally regressed the first half of the movie (or not even regressed, he was more mature in the beginning of the last movie than he was for the first half of this one), but too be fair, he was under a lot of stress, so I can excuse some douchey tendencies.

All the characters got some time to shine, some more than others: Scotty, Bones, Uhura.

Scotty pretty much stole the movie, IMO.

Was left wanting OT3 fic for Spock/Kirk/Uhura. Oh yeah, and I loved that Spock was awesome at being Vulcan until the point where he wasn't.

Haha, and I totally forgot the negative stuff. That's what I get for typing a mail about it at the same time.

Storywise, I thought it was all over the place, feels like they're setting stuff up for the next movie, which is fine, but yeah, all over the place. Or maybe it feels that way for the way they had Kirk act for the sake of plot, I'm not sure.

They also shoehorned in some weird references. Like, I don't mind references that only Star Trek fans get, that's awesome, but some were really badly timed or only worked if you DIDN'T know anything about Star Trek, so why use a reference at all and not make shit up?

Also wasn't blown away by the villain.

I guess in the end I didn't think it was that strong a movie, but I loved that it brought back all the characters that I adore.

Yeah, that's the spoiler I mean - the first time the rumors went around, I told myself I wouldn't see it if they were true, and then they were, and I found myself much less conflicted than I thought I would be - the whole press rigamarole makes me think that the Powers That Be know exactly how gross it is and want to delay the kerfuffle about it. Which is part of why my issue is specifically with financially supporting the movie, as opposed to seeing it in general.

I'm disappointed to hear about the regression, but glad to hear about Scotty, Bones, and Uhura! I had heard things that made me wary of Scotty's plotline (mainly Kirk's treatment of him, to be honest) - I'm not sure how many spoilers you want in this comment thread, so I'll stop there. XD

I am seriously excited about the influx of fic that this movie will create, though.
