I'm looking at you, Blaster

Feb 09, 2009 23:43

Got back from Comic Con late yesterday (technically early today). I had an AMAZING time, New York is always fantastic-- especially if you don't have 300 other band kids to worry about. Due to the help and determination of my companions, I got to start and finish Watchmen in time to enjoy all the spazzy excitement for what will be happening upon ( Read more... )

GOOD THIS WORKED

XD Jon's commentary is what happens when I feel attached to... anything. As you well know. They all get personified in my own way.

I'M SO JEALOUS ABOUT IMAX-- maybe I'll just go find one unless Joel's going to get me in for free.

The Comic Cons I can say for sure are a necessity-- everything becomes real once thought imaginary. It's wonderful

"Hey Manhattan... I can see your doodle!"

Thanks! I had so much fun at NYCC! :D

XDD and yes, everyone can do with that comment as they will. Though in fairness, H-Bomb has the ability to make his parts the size of regular people anyway XD

Not this time D: I actually didn't see anyone I knew, but apparently we saw a guy from Lost-- couldn't tell you who it was though XD

:O Lucky! Do you remember anything about how he looked? I might be able to tell you who he was. (I love Lost!)

abgjklasdfjhgdf, trailer, YES! Thank you for posting that, I totally hadn't seen it yet.

Y'know, Watchmen could be a three-hour montage of scenes in the style of that trailer and I would still hang on every minute.

You're welcome! :D That was the stuff shown over the summer, all super-secret like at the con XD If you haven't seen the theatrical trailers either you can find them on the site (along with clips of everyone, it's a roulette to see who you get when the site opens, pretty clever XD)

XD And I agree about the montage. I'll say so again in my longer post, but we got to watch the first 18 minutes of Watchmen and that alone was a promise of gorgeousness for the rest of the movie

I've loved this comic for three years now. I reread it at least one every few months. I am so goddamn excited! The only thing I'm worried about is that they augmented the ending a bit with the squid and that I am so afraid that Laurie's sassy, realistic attitude is going to be squelched into "ass-kicking damsel in distress" instead of "I don't need Mario to save me, and here's what I think of your damn castle!"

XD I'll be honest-- I actually can barely stand Laurie, so whatever they do to her probably won't change my mind. But it really is gorgeous and I know you of all people must be totally pumped!

I figured you'd dislike Laurie because most fans absolutely despise her. I didn't like Laurie the first (or second or third) time I read it either. More readings make her likeable, which is really to say that Watchmen requires, like, five readings to make "total sense" because Alan Moore is a fucking insane, beautiful bastard.

Laurie is a woman of squashed potential. She could have had a wonderful career and/or a family but instead she's a sex toy for an emotionally distant blue demi-god and spent her formative years forced to wear a skanky outfit fighting psycho criminals because her mother was living vicariously through her.

Girl gets the right to bitch. She saves humanity, too, to be honest. She keeps Dr. Manhattan from just abandoning earth or blowing it up. Plus, she's sweet and kind to Dan and that speaks volumes about her to me. I like Dan a lot. :3 Rorschach honestly horrifies me. I'll probably squirm the whole film.

Maybe rereading it would help me like her. Don't get me wrong, I totally agree in that I see her as one of those tragic casualties of "This could have been a great character and she wasn't handled as well as she could have been."

I still think she's at some fault for sticking with Jon for so long. I think it was just her final exit that got me. If he were so hard to live with and relate to why did she wait so long to walk out on him? I understand her arguments for the rest of it, I do XD I just can't bring myself to like her yet.

XD Dan is cute-- he's that nice guy who wants to keep people happy, you liking him makes total sense to me. And yes, Rorschach is scary-- but at the same time I'm like "ooo, Rorschach, you do go on~" but it's more of a "I'd want to hang out with that guy" than it is a "I love that guy" for me XD
