It is the curse of all computer applications that they, not infrequently, let you do things that are expedient but not really in your best interest.

But there must be some good in the world, otherwise why would there be erasers on pencils?

Heh. Speaking as someone who helped debug an undo function in a certain program, I can honestly say 1) yes, they're cool, and 2) the only reason we bothered was because Everyone Else Was Doing It.

My attitude was pretty much "Well, you should have saved your [document] more often then!"

This attitude was generally not appreciated.
