zekkass Gwen: Jack, what would have tempted you? What visions would have convinced you to open the Rift?
Jack: The right kind of Doctor. - Torchwood
Rose stood in front of him, and for a moment, his heart fluttered.
“You’re dead,” he said simply. “I saw the list of the dead from the Battle of Canary Wharf. You’re dead. You can’t be here.”
Rose shrugged. “Wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey,” she answered, and Jack thought, briefly, that she had been with the Doctor too long.
“Open the Rift,” she told him. “You have to open it! It’ll make everything right! Just this once, Jack, everybody lives!”
Everybody lives. He remembered that from 1941 and the gas mask zombies. Then it had been the Doctor who shouted it so excitedly.
“Open the Rift,” she repeated.
Jack shook his head. “You’re not Rose,” he said simply.
Rose pouted becomingly. “Jack!”
Jack shook his head again. “The real Rose would be shocked to find me in Torchwood, especially if she died in the Battle of Canary Wharf. You’re not Rose.”

The Doctor stood in front of him, in his leather jacket and jumper, his arms folded crossly.
“You have to open the Rift, Jack,” he said. “Everything will go back to the way it was if you open it all the way.”
Jack shook his head, with a half-laugh. “You’re not the Doctor,” he answered, a bit of a smile on his face.
The Doctor looked indignant at the suggestion that he could be anything else. “What, you don’t remember me, Jack?”
Jack just laughed, turning away. “Oh, you have so much to learn still, whoever you are.”

The Doctor stood in front of him. This time, he looked like the right one, the new regeneration.
“Open the Rift,” he said. “You know the Rift is one through time and technically space, too. It was closed back in 1869 - nice girl, the one who closed it. Died blowing up the building. Well, technically, she was dead already.” He tugged on his ear. “Right, getting back to the point at hand. The Rift’s been letting things seep through, like… water through your hands. Sorta. ‘Cept everything’s ending up in the wrong place, now, so to set everything to rights, you have to open the Rift all the way. It’ll draw things back to their proper place and time.”
Jack folded his arms. “Clever. At least you got that he regenerated. You’re not the Doctor. And I am not opening the Rift.”
“Jack,” the ‘Doctor’ called. “Jack!”
Jack turned.
“We have much to talk about still.”
Jack shook his head. “I have much to discuss… with the real Doctor.” He turned and walked away.
As he went to his office, he glanced at the Doctor’s hand in a jar. It wasn’t glowing. The Doctor wasn’t here.
There was nothing that would convince him to open the Rift.
