powers, skills, pets and equipment:

*Note: All abilities are canon.

Due to Mayuri’s various body modifications, Nemu strength and speed are highly enhanced with her strength far surpassing normal Shinigami standards. She even has the power to capture a Quincy arrow as shown in her fight against Ishida Uryuu. In a confrontation, Nemu relies mostly on hand-to-hand combat using kicks as her main offense, as well as her Demon Arts (Kidou), which are highly advanced.

Nemu is mostly immune to Mayuri’s poisons and carries a variety of antidotes on her person. Similarly, Mayuri stores a number of experimental chemicals inside her body, as shown in the Syazel fight. The Espada scientist invaded her body and in doing so contaminated himself with Mayuri’s super-human drug.

Like her father, Nemu is a highly skilled researcher and engineer. Her research, like her father’s, is not limited to a single scientific area, but pursues any topic that might be of interest to her father. Nemu often assists Mayuri in his research, and thus, has a great deal of experience experimenting on living specimens. She captures many of these same specimens for Mayuri, and so, has experience tracking and capturing various creatures. Furthermore, Mayuri uses Nemu’s strength for manual labor and often times gives her labor intensive jobs.

Nemu is never shown to have a Zanpakuto of her own in the manga; however, an official picture of all the Division Lieutenants has her wielding a Zanpakuto ; her own presumably. She does not rely on her Zanpakuto in combat, instead uses physical attacks, and Shinigami Demon Arts. It is possible that Mayuri has her Zanpakuto in his control, and if so, he may return it to her at his whim, but as it stands, Nemu does not carry it with her.

canon history:

Bleach Wiki

Nemu was created by Mayuri using a combination of Gigai and Artificial soul technology as well as his own blood. He is her creator, so she is faithfully loyal to him. Even though he mistreats and abuses her, she feels both respect and affection for him. She is also the 12th Division Lieutenant, and Mayuri’s right hand, doing most of the labor work for him.

Nemu first appears in the Soul Society Arc with Mayuri and helps him in his fight against Ishida. At Mayuri’s order, she attacks Ishida and holds him still so Mayuri can have a guaranteed strike. She sacrifices her body in order to assure a harsh blow to his opponent. However, she lets go of Ishida and Mayuri beats her for disobeying his orders and for asking for life regeneration medicine. Mayuri takes the request as an insult to his skills, since by asking for medicine she implies that her body, the one Mayuri made for her, is so weak that it will fail over such a minor wound. He leaves her lying on the ground where she watches the battle from the sidelines since the poison from his sword paralysis her. When Ishida wins the fight against her father, she gives him the antidote to Mayuri’s poison in gratitude for not killing him, though Ishida later reveals that he did try to kill him.

Next time, Nemu appears is in the Bount Arc (anime only). In order to study a live Bount, Mayuri sends Nemu to the world of the living in order to give Ishida a Quincy Bangle that will allow him to regain part of his lost Quincy powers. With his powers reclaimed, Ishida is able to open the Bount portal and send them to Soul Society where Mayuri plans to capture one for study. Once the Bount’s enter Soul Society, Nemu returns to Soul Society where she is attacked by Kariya in the Shinigami Research and Development Institute along with everyone else inside. She survives the attack.

In the Hueco Mundo Arc, Mayuri is sent to Hueco Mundo as of the Captains sent in as reinforcements. Nemu, of course, accompanies him. There she encounters the Espada Szeyel, who captures her with one of his tentacles after Mayuri makes a mockery of his attacks against him. Nemu, in turn, points out his mistake in attempting to make her hostage. A point Mayuri confirms when he releases his Bankai and orders it to eat him without concern for his Lieutenant. After the Espada is eaten by Mayuri’s Bankai, Nemu is subjected to his Gabriel ability. Szayel makes use of Nemu’s life-force and reiatsu to revive himself leaving her for dead, since the vessel is always killed by this ability. Yet, by invading her body, Szayel is exposed to a super-man drug that infects his mental perception and makes time seem to move slowly by heightening all five senses to the point where one second feels like an eternity. Nemu is critically injured by Syazel’s Gabriel ability, leaving Mayuri to restore her by questionable means. Once she is fixed, Mayuri orders her to open the doors to Szayel’s laboratory.

personality:

Nemu has no goals nor desires of her own, her entire existence stems back to Mayuri-her creator. He created her using Gigai technology which is used to give shinigami’s corporeal bodies in the world of the living, and Gikon technology-a modified (mod) soul-combined with his own blood. Every part of her is artificial, and ultimately arises from him. In addition, it is probably the case that her Shikai too was made by Mayuri who's proven capable of modifying his own Zanpakuto. Since he is genetically connected to her, he may be able to modify her own Zanpakuto, and probably control it. However, even though she is an artificial being, Nemu does posses a soul (mod), and a high amount of reiatsu of her own.

Mayuri created Nemu to share many of his own characteristic. They share the same birthday, and both have a mutual love of pike fish and dislike for onions. In addition, they share many interests including human experimentation and reading every single character published in Seireitei Communication. Like her father Nemu likes experimentation, and can be very blunt and emotionless having acquired the behavior from spending a lifetime at Mayuri’s side, who does not value life for itself but for it’s scientific worth.

Although Nemu is similar to Mayuri in many aspects, she has developed a faint personality of her own. Unlike her father, she has the ability to feel compassion for others and will try to help someone as long as it does not contradict one of his direct orders. She is a quiet and withdrawn individual. Mayuri’s abuse and mistreatment of her has made her into an introvert, yet she is eternally loyal to him, and even feels affection toward him. Though he abuses her, she feels it is his right to treat his creation as he wills. She is simply glad that he tolerates her and allows her to remain by his side. Mayuri created her and gave her existence a purpose. Without him, she would never have existed, thus, she is eternally grateful to him and faithfully carries out all of his orders.

Nemu displays restraint, intellect, and an old-world refined quality expected of most women in Japanese culture. She tends to stay in the background of a great deal of conversations, preferring to listen, rather than speak; a trait she’s developed due to Mayuri’s usual treatment of her. He speaks at her, but usually never to her, so she’s learned to simply listen, only offering an opinion after thinking it through, and sometimes only if it’s requested of her.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?

Nemu is the 12th Division Lieutenant and was made to withstand damage that would kill a regular shinigami. She’s an expert fighter and can take care of herself. She is also a researcher and is accustomed to dealing with seemingly unexplainable oddities of the natural world.

[Having learned how to use the device, the feed turns on and Nemu's face appears on camera.]

I seem to have entered another world that is neither Hueco Mundo nor the world of the living. [A momentary pause before she continues.] The residents speak of deadly creatures that inhabit this world. Mayuri-sama might like to study them. I will look for a way to return with a specimen and inform him of my findings.

After encountering an interesting creature with a unique poison, Mayuri had sent Nemu out to retrieve it in order to study the effects of the poison first hand. It had been two days since he had ordered the retrieval of the specimen and Nemu was still no closer to finding the large animal than she had two days ago.

It was night, and she walked through the outskirts of the city, her senses on high alert. She had been attacked by other creatures in her search, but none of them were what she was looking for. Even now, she heard a familiar howl in the distance, but dismissed it. It was not what she sought. She kept walking when out in the distance, she saw red eyes, sharp teeth, and the distinct body shape of the specimen Mayuri had described to her. She immediately lifted her guard, and was about to run after the creature when a sharp cry of a child stopped her in her tracks.

She turned her attention in the direction of the distressed sound, and made out the form of a small child running frantically away from a large wolf-like creature that ran steadily after her. Nemu turned her attention back to the specimen she was sent to retrieve and watched it jog away slowly. Another loud scream caught her attention, and instead of going after it, Nemu moved to the child’s aid, and confronted the wolf using her Kidou to blast it away.

When the animal got up, it whined and ran away from the unknown assailant that had interfered with its meal. Once the animal was gone, Nemu turned to the frightened child who was panting on the ground, holding onto her ankle.

“Are you hurt?” Nemu asked without inflection.

The child nodded quickly, turning her attention to her ankle as her heart raced in her chest.

The Lieutenant understood the gesture, and kneeled down in front of her, and checked the ankle. She might have been a simpleton compared to Mayuri-sama, but even simpletons could accomplish basic tasks, and this was one of them. After inspecting her foot, Nemu moved to take off her Division Badge. She unwrapped the bandages that held it in place, and used them to wrap her small foot. Once she was finished, she pulled back, and stared at the still frightened child.

Her features softened, and her eyes gained some light to them as a smile lifted her lips. “I’ll take you back home,” she assured her, placing a hand on her head. She would return her to her guardians, before returning to her task. If she had come across one creature, then she would find another. With that in mind, Nemu boosted the now calm child onto her back, and walked her back into the city and to her home.

Anything else?

Not at the moment.
