We're deprived of a lot of movies over here, but I did manage to buy The Wrestler, even if it didn't come out in theaters. Great movie, and wonderfully accurate to wrestling itself.
Interesting to see Redbelt up there. That's the MMA movie with Randy Couture, right? I never saw it, but I didn't think too much of it when I saw the trailer.
If you go into Redbelt thinking it's going to be an action romp like Bloodsport, you'll be very disappointed. There's little fighting in it and what's there isn't too impressive. It's a story about a man who lives by a rigid code of honor which is exploited by others at every turn and yet he sticks by it no matter what. The ending is a bit silly if you think about it ("That guy wants to expose our fraud live on PPV." "Get it on camera!") but I couldn't help but cheer anyway.
Randy Couture has a small role as a commentator, which strangely I didn't find him too convincing as. Funny thing is, Dana White and Couture are all over the extras on the BD, even though the film paints fighting for money as being quite the soulless pursuit.
I thought Mick Foley had a good comment on the accuracy of The Wrestler. He liked the film, but thought it was a dramatic stretch to put Randy in that staplegun match. If Randy was once as big a star as the film suggests he was, Foley felt Randy was famous enough that he wouldn't have to subject himself to
