you know, jk rowling is compiling a Harry Potter Encyclopedia to include all of the things she couldn't fit in the books and the epilogue and elaborated backstories of various characters, to quench our Potter thirsts now that there's no more...

Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut and Grendel by John Gardener are both excellent choices. Moby Dick is my other favorite book, but it's more of a chore than a pleasure. An extremely rewarding and satisfying chore, but a chore none the less.
