I went for an interview in Hove today.... none of you get too excited i really don't think i got the job or anything... but i was just playfully thinking about a couple of the questions that i was asked

I don't think they were necessarily prying into your personal life as such. I think maybe they asked you how long you two had been together to see whether you had serious intentions about the job. If you were serious about your relationship, stands to reason that you'd be serious about the job as well. Says a lot about a person really. If it was just a fling, then maybe they would equate that with you being a person that would view a job as 'short-term'! Anyway, good luck with it all. Even if this job doesn't happen, there'll be others.
As to the smoking, most places have a 'no smoking' policy these days. I guess they give the poor sods more breaks so that they can get their fix and maintain concntration on their work, rather than on the fact that they are dying for a cigarette. But I agree, it's a sorry state of affairs! At our place, you get one break in the morning, lunch and an afternoon break. If that's not enough...then TOUGH!
mmmm.... chocolate breaks. I actually tried that one at work today ... i told them it seriously harmed my performance to deal with stressed out postal workers who hadn't received there orders. but they said no so i just had to settle with a couple of kitkats on the desk to munch on while i worked!! And i keep getting lock out of my office in the warehouse cos i haven't worked out how to use the key card system. actually i got stuck in the revolving doors on the way to lunch, that was a bit scary.. i was really hungry!!! oh dear... gimme some chocolate
you didn't tell me they asked you that. hmm well like you say if things don't work out i know for a fact you'd make a go off it on your own.
as for the smoking, thats justs bizaare, especially whrn everyone screams equal rights for everything the non smokers should be able enjoy a fresh air break or something x x x
Companies don't care about whether you smoke or not, they just want to make sure you work as much as possible and since really addicted smokers need a smoke now and again to feel better, they also will work harder then. It's just all to make more money really, it's a huge CONSPIRACY! When I went to that job interview, it was really weird how many personal questions they asked "do you have bf?" "what do you do in your sparetime?" "do you have any pets" wtf?
