Because Progress Is Not A Spectator Sport

STEVE ROGERS WANTS YOU TO GET INVOLVED!

The sad reality is that while many of us talk about social justice or we're quick to comment when there's an internet drama popping off, when it comes time to do proactive work that's positive and free of drama and wank, we quickly notice that the social justice ranks tend to thin out.

Don't be that person. Steve Rogers doesn't want you to be that person. Social justice is not a specator's sport, and progress doesn't occur unless each of us do our part.

The following are two excellent organizations that need submissions and your involvement.

First Up.......

Ars Marginal

Launched by afro_dyte aka RVC Bard aka Afro-Dyke aka my internet wife aka Woman I love you but I cannot keep up with all of these multiple monikers and I'm gonna need you to make me a list, in its short time Ars Marginal has established itself as one of the premiere sites which presents a progressive view of arts and entertainment from marginalized perspectives.

As my other internet half so eloquently stated:

Ars Marginal was not set up to be one of those places where people come to visit and hear the untainted brilliance of the “in crowd.” It’s more like the place where us “little people” get to speak our minds about what we really think about the shit the entertainment industry tries to shove down our throats. It’s one part sanctuary from oppressive bullshit disguised as entertainment, one part social commentary, one part rabble-rousing.

While being a little virtual clubhouse was fun, there seems to be a real need for Ars Marginal to move beyond that. That means more authors, more content, more comments, and more slaying of trolls who have no home training.

What can you do right now? A few ideas:

-Tell all your online friends about what’s going on at Ars Marginal each time a great discussion or post shows up here.

-Know somebody who wrote something amazing that fits Ars Marginal’s purpose and style? Cool! Ask them about reposting their content here at Ars Marginal.

-Got something you want to discuss? Awesome! Let us know by leaving a comment at the new “What do you want to talk about?” page.

-Tweet and retweet about what’s happening at Ars Marginal

-Do something else that we didn’t think of but you think would help

A few FAQs:

Q: What Is Ars Marginal about?

A: I'm glad you asked.

Q: But I'm a white person, am I allowed to contribute to this POC movement?

A: We have female, POC, LGBTQ and believe it or not some of our marginalities intersect. IE: we have Women of Color sharing their views as well as Queer POCs. And we also have caucasian contributors who are loved and adored. As long as you've got home training, you are welcomed.

Q: But I'm so busy I don't have time to generate new content.

A: That's okay, we gladly take old posts. If you penned something powerful and excellent three years ago that's still relevant now, share it, we would love to read it. If you do reviews and blog about your favorite fandoms from SJ perspectives, submit it, we'd love to read it.

If you have any other questions shoot an email to rvcbard [at] gmail [dot] com.

The We Got Your Back Project

Founded by my peeps whereisjoy and tanyad, this is a project that's near and dear to my heart, for obvious reasons.

They are accepting videos and written statements that share how the lives of LGBTQIA people get better when we have each others back. Give some hope to LGBTQIA youth by telling them how your own life improved.

News articles, videos, resources, old posts you wrote years ago, are all welcomed and encouraged.

To submit, send an email to wegotyourbackproject@gmail.com

Boost the signal, get involved.
