There were a lot of great RPGs released for the SNES/Super Famicom, and today I'd like to talk about one that until recently was virtually unknown outside of Japan.

I'm very impressed with how this came out. I hope you write a lot more, very soon! Thanks again!

Thanks. I've got some other ideas I've been thinking about, so I should have more stuff coming soon.

The last time I tried playing this, I recall being somewhat confused due to the lack of a manual. And GameFAQs isn't much of an option, since that involves spoiling yourself. Is the manual available in any form?

The fan translation comes with a translation/revision of the manual zipped up with the patch.

Thanks for pointing it out. I'd obtained a prepatched version from dgemu and so never noticed there was a manual online.

Hey, very well-written review. I've played DDS: Shin Megami Tensei for the ps2, and I remember it had a similiarly dark, unique, and fascinating plot. In fact, I think DDS's plot is really its strongest point. It was definitely a challenge on the PS2, too-lots and lots and lots of leveling up ( ... )

Being a Super Famicom game, the aren't really any load times. Battles can go quick if you auto them and even with manual commands the pace of the fighting is still fairly quick, but you can spend a lot of time talking to enemies too. Even with the quick pace some encounters may last a while though, since as the game goes on you can get in "chains" of fights (like when the enemy calls Reinforcements in DDS), and many of your encounters may be two or three fights long (sometimes more).

Ah, okay, thanks for the further info.! Heh, it still sounds quicker paced than DDs for PS2.:) The ability to auto battles is always welcome...and I'd rather have longer fights than longer load times any day!
