I pretty much forgot about this community for a long time, but the last post made me think about how obvious it is when people are going through a phase. So here is my extremely official theory of goth phases ( Read more... )

I feel like I skipped quite a few phases and have already reached the point of "dresses however the fuck they like, listens to whatever they like without worrying about how "goth" it is."

Skipping phases is clearly the most efficient way to do things. Kudos to you. The whole thing is a hell of a lot more fun when you don't take it seriously and don't give a shit anyway.

Are you the same Lucretia who use to DJ a goth night at the Asylum back in 92 or 93' in DC, I believe?

Nope, I'm originally from the NYC area and currently in New England. Why, did they also have impeccable taste and a rapier wit? ;)

I think I may have asked you along time ago after I posted the question...

Don't remember much about the night, other then it was around the end of 2' on Tuesday nights. I remeber being there one night when the Bush/Clinton electionwas going on.

I think there are a few of us who pass in and out of the scene, flirt with other musical scenes, but keep a real interest in the music.

Personally I love the ideal of the Goth scene with its dark glam aesthetic and arty punk influenced music, but the actual scene itself is so far from that it just drains me.

Yeah.. That's pretty damn fuckin accurate.

Surely, this 'intertubes' we have access to should allow the creation of a goth scene the way it SHOULD be? I mean, honestly, I've gotten to the point where I simply refuse to mix with the scene in my city because there ain't even the slightest bit of originality and they all piss me off no end with the bitching and the whining and the boasting and the argh I want to kill them all. I hang with the punks instead when I go to town. They ain't much better but at least a couple of them I can talk to for more than a minute without gagging.

Then again, I think most of the original scene around here moved south for just that reason.
