I haven't played in a while due to Steam Sale acquisitions, but I have played ridiculous amounts of Civ V. Like 67 hours at work for the fortnight, 75 hours on Civ V.
Steam sale got us all three of those, but have only had time to play CIV V so far, which we've racked up 99 hrs of (mostly my husband). We both really like it.
My roommates say Civ 5 is a tremendous disappointment. They're HUGE Civ fans, so I don't know if that means it's really bad or just their-expectations-were-dashed bad. But it was not of the good.
Assassin's Creed is good, but repetitive. I'd go for Assassin's Creed II if you've the option and flexibility where it comes to price. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood has kept one of my roommates quite entranced. I myself am enjoying Dead Rising 2, so if you've not played the first one, give that a try and move on to the sequel when you can. In the sequel, you can, like, duct tape shit together to make ever more devastating weapons, my favorite being the sledgehammer-fire axe combo. (Awesome carnage.)
