The rain had been heavy all of Sunday, late into the night. By Monday morning the heavy rain had given way to thick fog--fog so thick it was very difficult to see very far. The morning light was slowly starting to dispel it, increase visibility at least somewhat, but the houses were still looming shapes, and the streetlights remained on, even well past dawn.
One of the houses along this particular street had a very fancy antenna array, something elaborate and sort of old-fashioned.
Except the thing decorating the array this morning wasn't old-fashioned. At a distance it was an indistinct tangle, like a branch caught in the antenna. Closer, however, the shape resolved into a body, hanging spread-eagled, upside down, twisted impossibly. There was no way the person was alive, not with their neck hanging at such a gross angle, their torso and back twisted around sickeningly. The arms and legs were oddly splayed as well, everything just situated wrong, like a doll that had been carelessly flung aside, and left a broken and dismantled heap.
Closer still, the body was blond, long hair misted with fog, eyes open, but dead. It was too damp for flies to be buzzing around the eyes and slackly open mouth, but the blue lips and pallid skin indicated the body had been dead for at least a little while.
