So I get a message from an old friend of mine......
.....telling me that she would like for me to come out to a local club and meet up with her. Before I get into any detail, let me give a generic history between the two of us:
::cue flashback vapor/wash effect ::
---I was once involved with a girl I thought I was in love with. Turns out, love was nothing more than a passing flash in the pan for me, and a way out of daddy's house for her. The whole relationship was not completely without benefit. During our time together, I was introduced to a friend of hers. The first time I saw this girl, I actually wondered why I was with my current significant other. Well, push came to shove, the relationship ended on a fairly bad note, and I was left with no one right before the holiday season, which is always a bad time for me anyway.
Then, one day, the phone rings. It's her friend, wondering how I was and if I'd heard from my now ex-girlfriend. So I proceeded to tell her the story of what happened. To make a long story longer, she had just gotten out of a relationship herself, and expressed some semblence of interest in me. I gratefully obliged, and we were quite happy just being casual friends. Although, over time, I developed genuine feelings for her, but let her go, knowing she would probably be happier with the person she wanted to be her partner. It was a decision I still regret to this day.
So, after that, we fell out of touch for awhile. There would be the occasional online meeting or a chance encounter at a concert or something, but nothing like it had been. Now, back to our regularly scheduled blog-----
With that said, I was quite jubilant over the idea of getting to see her again. It had been almost a year and a half since we had spent any real time together, and I was nostalgic for the way things had been. We have recently been in contact, trying to figure out a time when we could get together, and tonight was that time. So, I am outside, waiting for her arrival with a couple of other folks who were along for the ride.
They all got there, and the first thing she says to me kind of threw me for a loop. I wasn't sure if it was her idea of a joke, or if she was actually serious. But I responded in typical fashion with a comment like "I've been waiting a year and a half for you to say that." She expressed that she was serious, and all of a sudden, things seemed so much brighter in my little ol corner of the world. We spent the night wandering the crowds, talking to those who we knew, and just all around having a grand time.
So, now I sit, wondering what will become of this whole ordeal. I've been out of the game for long enough to be a little rusty. But somewhere, deep in me, there is a new light that wasn't there 12 hours ago. I am not placing all my chips on this bet, but god damn dear reader, it certainly would be nice to hit the jackpot finally.
