And HELL, they're the BIG picture after all, so not too many of the horrifying people pix!!
I wish I could properly paraphrase a quote that described a particular pacific theater history book as addressing the question "whether this was the killing of a culture, or an assisted suicide". Honestly, I think what chills me the VERY most, always, is that such a hideous thing had to be done twice -- TWICE!!! Of course it's always your basic average people that have to suffer in some sick scenario where ones in charge are far too prideful. Oh and have already been throwing away the proverbial flower of their youth straight into death and flames and GOLLY it would be nice if that sort of thing were UNUSUAL on our planet.
(I really do have to get the licensed version of Zipang at some point. And it freaks me out that Rhode Island still has Victory Over Japan Day.)
