Someone explain some things to me!

 ---Because clearly I am too dumb to understand.

Why is Charlie Sheen being lauded as an awesome person right now? Like... I know it's the latest craze and everything, but I guess I'm just missing something. Because before all his silly stuff went down, he was just a douche on a god-awful TV show. What separates this dude from, say, Lindsay Lohan?

Sexist double-standards are so aggravating. :/ And the fact that "feminist" is used as an insult in a lot of cases is also aggravating, for that matter. I understand your frustration, bb, even if I don't have much of an answer beyond Sexist World Is Sexist.

The fact that any woman would say they're not a feminist it ridiculous, if you ask me... but I'll save that rant for another day xD;;;

But yeah. It's upsetting that the world still isn't over this shit :S

I agree entirely. People have this image of a feminist as a woman who hates men and thinks women should be considered ~superior~, but seriously, that is not what feminism is about, considering that's sexism in the other direction. This is kind of on a tangent, but I worked with a nonprofit/heard speakers from others this past summer, and there was this guy who runs a group for men who fight against domestic violence against both woman and men, and he talked about how they sometimes come across women who treat them like they're just in the way because, being men, they couldn't possibly actually care about women's well-being or consider it a human issue rather than a women's issue, and how he was so grateful for the times when they were able to work together WITH women to strive towards equality (the focus was domestic violence, but feminism came up quite a bit, as could be expected) and safety. Buuut I am kind of getting into a ramble, so I should stop, too. ^^;

Maybe someday. :/

Exactly!!! Feminism is NOT reverse sexism. It's respecting women as equals. If anyone cannot agree with that, then they should embarrassed. I've had to explain it several times, but of course I get eye-rolls and bra-burning jokes. Ugh.

Responding to your comment above, I think many people just don't understand what feminism is. When people (including women, which frustrates and angers me so much more) think of feminists, a picture of a crazy, man-hating, ugly, overweight lesbian comes up :||| I actually had to clear up what feminism was to many of my friends (they thought feminism meant to hate men >.> oh dear lord). There's been research done in my lab about feminists at my university campus, and hardly anyone identifies as being a feminist, which is sad, really.

Yeah, that is definitely the problem. People have such a weird notion of what feminism is. It's not reverse sexism. It's the belief that women are equals and deserve respect. Unfortunately, my attempts to explain this usually falls on deaf ears and become the butt of bra-burning jokes. Yeesh. People are so dense.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with feminism, either. :D

Totally! I'd get a "This is what a feminist looks like" tshirt, if I didn't already totally look like what people think a feminist looks like xD;

I actually think it's because women consume more mass media. Women want to see a young, (formerly) pretty girl torn down, but they don't care about the man. Women want the girl to be a mess because then she's no threat, but a guy isn't a threat anyway.

That's just my conjecture anyway, haha. Because gossip mags are read and written by women (and gay men lol) and the average woman in the street takes glee in a desirable female falling from grace. I'm totally not innocent of this myself. XD But then again, I disapprove of everyone, male or female, if they end up in such a state. Same with the Hoff. *shudder* It's just sad and disturbing!

That's so grim xD;;; I don't really pay much attention to female celebs (or... well.. celebs in general, really), so I never really hear about them UNTIL they fall from grace. So I guess I don't get any satisfaction from it. In the very least, I feel equally about both the men and women who get to that point.
