Freedom is not free but neither are we if we are forced into war and a draft system. You would rather support a corporate war that will kill thousands of innocent lives and bring about the destruction of natural resources for a poor nation, not to mention potentially bringing about a depression in our own country, than attempt to settle things in a diplomatic manner? And slavery was not washed away with blood. Slavery is still live and well in our country and across the globe. Wake up to reality. War is not the save-all. In fact, it causes more damage than it does aid anything or anyone.
Diplomacy and appeasement work so well last time we tried it with a dictator! Hitler enjoyed his peace march into the countries Britain gave up to Germany. So lets Saddam move about building weapons then when he nukes us what? You know what will happen Iraq will be scrubbed off the face of the earth by our nukes. His army is not composed of volunteers they are all draftees, the faction to the north in iraq wish to split from iraq and form their own moderate government. They await the US backing of their plans. During the Clinton administration there were several attempts to throw over the government of iraq by the people. Its not a free country. Its oppressed. The only resources they have are oil witch is used to fund the hundreds of “palaces” saddam built as research facilities for weapons. Saddam supports terrorist bombing in Israel he does not believe in diplomacy he is a dictator! There is no democracy in that nation. He has violated every agreement signed by him. Traditionally a war would boost the economy because of the mass production that must be done in order to fight. In this case however, we already have a surplus of weapons because they have been working in mass production since after the September 11th tradgety. Also historically, after this great boost in the economy, a slump in the economy will occur; traditionally in the form of a depression or recession. Also the so-called bs about the draft is not bs. It is an extreme possibility with the large-scale war that Bush wants to engage in. We may have a standing army but the number of fronts that have been discussed for potential "conflicts" and the current day weapon technology makes it seem as if that standing army may not be standing long. And please, do not compare this war to wars of the past. The technology that will be used in case of this conflict permits someone to be killed from a relativly far distance. At least with the historical wars, one had to literally see the white's of the enemy's eyes before they could do anything.
