What in the world is a 'ball'? Is this some sort of human activity? Or are we going inside a giant spherical object of some sort?

A Ball is a formal dance. It's more of a western thing, but very fun. When they first started they were only held by Royalty and Nobles.

That explains why I have not seen this back in Nippon whenever Lords and Ladies of he court hold a celebration.

I know a few of the dances one would use at balls, such as Waltz, gavotte, foxtrot, tango, and sometimes even shag, swing, and hustle depending on the type of ball. Only reason I know them is from when I would sneak away from duties to the living world and go to the dance halls and night clubs of the times. Though modern clubs are a lot more fun I think.
