It was a shame we didn't get to hang out much when you were living here.

Regarding getting a degree, whether you need one is completely dependent on what kind of writer you want to be. As a journalist you would do well with a degree (unless you wanted to take a crack at the blogger way of doing things). But as a novelist, a degree is largely irrelevant -- you just need tenacity, persistence and some amount of skill.

Also, if I didn't say it before, I am really proud of you for taking the plunge. It takes incredible guts, and is honestly not something I would have expected you to do. I have a feeling you are going to achieve some tremendous personal growth as a result of your journey. Best of luck.

Thanks, that means a lot coming from you. And sorry I didn't read this till now, but I've been acclimating to the change and haven't gotten into a comfortable rhythm until now. And part of the reason I wanted a degree was in case it became clear I was not cut out to be a novelist, and it wouldn't be as hard to transfer from one to the other. Who knows, maybe I'll prefer journalism?

Hey, all I can say is "It's about time you moved on with your life!" Sometimes you just have to hold your nose and jump in.

Besides, which is more scary? Moving to a new country where you don't speak the language or spending all your free time living in a virtual world to the exclusion of real life?

Welcome to the real world and have a great adventure!
