What is fire? Pt. II

We often refer to the fire within someone, but what is the purpose and true nature of this type of fire? It seems that we often assume this fire is expressed through anger and other negative but powerful emotions, but this is not the fire of an enlightened person ( Read more... )

Some days, I have to blow on the embers of my fire to get it burning again. Others, I frantically try to put it out. So, how does one control it, and keep it burning at a steady rate, instead of either extreme?

It's important to remember that the fire's intensity is not truly what makes it dangerous, but it's our inability to control it that can cause inner turmoil. It is only acting inappropriately on those feelings that is self-destructive. Also, fire by nature is unstable. We may try to steady it, but it will always find a way to rage out of control or dwindle to almost nothing. That is part of its true power, so you shouldn't worry as long as you know how to handle whatever may happen... Then again, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
