summary: in which seungho catches soyeon kissing byunghee
In all eight years I’ve known Yang Seungho, I’ve never seen him this angry. I could practically see the anger seethe from his body and judging by the gulp from Byunghee, I knew he could see it too.
“Park Injung.” I flinched. How long had it been since he used my real name when he addressed me? “I asked what was going on.”
“It’s not Soyeon’s fault,” Byunghee immediately said, coming to my rescue.
But it was my fault, and mine entirely. “Quit trying to be a hero Byunghee,” I finally spoke up, “You see Seungho. What we have here is actually quite a funny story.” A sheepish laugh could be heard from me as I tried to lighten the mood. Nope, didn’t seem to work.
Instead, I think Seungho got angrier. I don’t blame him though. If I had just seen my almost girlfriend kiss my best friend, my band mate, I’d be pretty angry too. That’s right, almost girlfriend. For someone as manly as Seungho, and I use manly in the most non serious way ever, he has yet to confess his feelings to me. And no, I’m not assuming he likes me either. I just know.
“It’s not funny.”
Yep, I was right. Seungho was definitely angrier than when we started. I glanced over at Byunghee who was looking at me, waiting for me to say something.
“See, I have this best friend,” I started, not quite sure how I was even going to begin this story, “And I’ve known him for quite some time now. Eight years actually. One day he thinks it’s okay to walk up to me and just straight up kiss me. But the funny thing is, he walked away right after it happened.”
A wince. I could’ve sworn he just winced.
“Ten phone calls and thirty text messages later, all unanswered mind you, I decided to give his dorms a visit. Byunghee answered the door and…” I trailed off before pointing upward at the mistletoe that was still hanging there, “You don’t go around breaking mistletoe rules you know.”
“So you thought it was okay to kiss my friend?”
“Well I originally came here to kiss you, but it’s really your fault for not answering the door.” By now Byunghee had slipped out of the doorframe and into the safety of his room. I was sure Seungho would take care of him later, but I was probably the first priority at the moment.
I watched as he stepped forward towards me. I can’t lie, I was a little nervous. Who wouldn’t be when an angry Yang Seungho stepped closer to you? I remained unmoved, rooted to the spot actually. Everything after that step forward was a blur, something that flashed right before my eyes before I could comprehend it. One moment we were a foot apart and the next, his lips were pressed firmly against mine. Déjà vu.
Before I got a chance to kiss him to back, to pull away, to even realize what the heck was going on, his lips left mine. I wouldn’t lie, I was a little disappointed, but it was masked easily by my surprise.
“Mistletoe,” he said while pointing up nonchalantly, “Now stop going under mistletoes with my band mates and kissing them on the cheek.” The door was shut in my face and I was left alone in my thoughts again, just like the night earlier.
But this time, a smile crept on my face because I knew exactly what he did and why he did it.
That night when I was tucked warmly into my bed, prepared to sleep, I received two text messages.
The first one from Byunghee. ‘I have a bruise on my arm. You’re welcome.’ I didn’t even have to text him back to know what he meant by the ‘you’re welcome’ part, instead I scrolled to the second message I received.
‘The only person you’re allowed to kiss anywhere, and I mean anywhere, from now on is me.’
That was all Seungho said, that was all he had to say.
