When you say "the desktop" do you mean the Desktop PC so everything will become laptops, or do you mean the concept of a "desktop" in an operating system?
desktop as in, a machine with dedicated hardware for housing an operating system.
I bunched laptops and desktops together in the same category- the point is that operating systems are going to be loaded from remote servers rather than from a console machine.
yeah, everything might just be run with cell phones or mp3 players instead hahaha
unless there's a world war III and the entire infrastructure of modern computer and internet falls apart (or a giant super EMP emitting meteor smashes into the moon knocking out the world's power) I don't see a future happening without computers of some sort. Whether that be the computers we know today, or some other device that performs similar functions.
