I've only half-read the book (I was reading it at a friend's house), and I bought it when I was in NZ- it was probably fairly readily available because of the movie coming out, I guess.

The book and the movie apparently aren't that closely connected. I haven't read the book (but I want to), but the movie was lots of fun.

Well, the book is meant to be relatively factual, so I can see how a fictional movie could be quite different. I hope it has some of the same ridiculous feel, though.
