I have arrived in Sydney, first leg of my trip. I feel like I should go out and do something. I've been here a few hours, it's not even 7pm, but I'm utterly buggered.

Has some great disaster befallen the UK internet? I participate in forums and blogs from the UK, and they are all remarkably quiet at the moment.

I don't think I'll be going to Swancon next year. Despite being able to get a student discount, I don't like the much higher prices, which have priced a few people I know out of being able to go. Did you know that Four and Twenty produce a halal beef pie? I didn't until today.

Not all their beef pies are halal, just the one marked "Export".

If you are going to write course materials with review questions at the end:

Put the crucial materials in the body of the reading. If, to answer one of the review questions, you actually have to look up the answer, where new information about the subject is contained, there is something wrong.

Well, it looks like the storm has left me unemployed for 4+ weeks, while the ward is returned to a liveable state.

I guess that leaves me with more time...

My area has been very fortunate to escape the storm largely unscathed. There are a few branches down, some traffic lights out, but no major damage from anyone that I have talked to.
