What are black-eyed peas anyway, do you happen to know the Dutch name?

I'm not sure of the Dutch name, either. They're just plain old beans, nothing too special, but I love them when prepared with jalapenos. I think they're called "black-eyed" because they're light in color with a black splotch on one side.
