I just got off the phone with the morons at the IND, which always leaves me in a bad mood (and shaking with the effort of talking about all this legal crud in Dutch). This time was no exception. The equivalent US immigration helpline is often referred to as the "1-800-Misinformation line." Just so you don't think that it's exclusive to the Netherlands ...

congratulations. You give me hope that sometime in the next century, I too will get my {expletive deleted} permit. 16 months and counting.

A question for you:
Did the IND ever tell you that while your residency permit was in progress, you could not return to the Netherlands for 3 months if you left? They told me that back in March, but other folks have said they don't think it's correct information. I'd really like to go visit my friends back in the States (and Perkins, and TGIFridays, and Applebees...), but don't want to wind up stuck there, and then starting all the verblijfverkunning process all over again.
