I share your pain about the "intelligent design" discussion. For a country with a so-called division of church and state, "They" have an unremitting ability to attempt to cram religion down the throats of the collective public. I wouldn't mind so much if they applied equal attention to ALL the major religions. I've had so many discussions with friends and relatives about this, and they just cannot see what's wrong with teaching "religion" in the public schools. Their answer to "not everyone believes that way" is usually along the lines of "But it's the TRUTH, and Jesus wants us to share that!" *thud*

Seriously! I was eaten alive when I first got there. I remember being so horrified when I learned that the odd little black cloud that I sometimes see hanging low along the side of the road is actually made up of bazillions of mosquitos, hovering over the sloten. Eek! The only reason I haven't convinced Rick to call in an exterminator to get rid of all our spiders is for their mosquito-eating properties ( ... )
