Doctor's visit

Feb 02, 2009 21:41

Today was a new patient visit with the new doctor.

I took a laundry list of issues. I didn't even get through them though... she was done listening after the edema and the discharge/menopausal issues I've been having. I mean Done. Listening. As in Finished.

I get that she could only focus on so much at a time, and I admit these are the two most ( Read more... )

HEY! IF YOU HAVE LUPUS WE CAN HAVE A PARTY. 8}

(Sorry, trying to make you feel better in my odd way)

Edit: Just read about Graves'... sounds like a complete drag. I seriously hope you don't have anything else on top of that. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow while I'm at the rheumatologist's office discussing my treatment.

LOL on the lupus. I barely escaped a lupus diagnosis before; this might clinch it if it proves not to be cardiovascular or just a poor catch for the UA.

The worst thing about the Graves is the small indignity of having my eyes, which were my best feature, slowly become increasingly pushed forward.

The proteinuria may indicate autoimmune kidney issues.

I certainly hope not, too! I'll be thinking good thoughts for future visits. If, in the future, you find that you're increasingly upset with her not-listening, I can recommend another local physician.

The gal that referred me says she gets better when she knows you. But I might end up taking you up on the recommendation.

Good for you for being an informed patient and good self advocate. Do you have your issues and questions printed out so you can leave them with her?

If you're not satisfied with your Dr's. communication style, I encourage you to keep pressing and don't be shy about seeking a second opinion. If that's not comfortable for you, see if you can get someone to be an advocate for you. The people who get the best care are the ones who take charge and aren't afraid to make waves.

These days it's pretty sad how doctors seem to have so little time for their patients. Whatever happened to the days when they actually would show up at your door and took the time to care? Not that every doctor doesn't listen...but most of the ones I've encountered these days and the past years have been pretty short on listening skills.

It's not the doctors, it's the insurance companies; but you don't want me to get going on that! LOL

Yes, I agree with that too LOL. As of now since I'm single and self-employed, I pay a hefty price.

I am dreading the day my dr of 25+ years retires. Once we went to a festival and left my 14 yr old son at home alone (with numbers of people to call if needed). He got a tick and freaked. He called our Dr who came out to the house and took the tick out for him -- and often asks after him even now. Before he joined the HMO he would charge us like half of what he normally charged while we were terribly broke and without insurance. He still spends more time with me than I might be scheduled for without an increase in base cost though with the HMO his fee has certainly risen significantly. I don't think it will be possible to find another Dr that can satisfy me after that kind of care.
