Mom and Dad were slated to arrive around noon today, so I wanted to get going on laundry fairly early so I'd have something fairly nice to wear.

Got down to my car to discover it had been gone through overnight (what is it with VB and my car getting rifled? no idea...) The thief took some change and the container it was in, but it's always weird to ( Read more... )

I know people in the UK would find this surreal; I grew up around guns, but have made it a point to stay away from them as an adult. It is very weird going places with my folks and having their handguns, and their concealed carry permits, become an issue.

That is hilarious about not being able to carry a gun onto a military base. Talk about ironic.
There's a sub shop down there called Zeros and they're really good.
When Stan was in the Navy...waaaaaaaaaaay back when, they were there, so they're much loved.

The gun thing -- I would lay odds neither of my parents has ever touched one, nor seen one outside, say, a museum. I know how to use one (though I learned without much enthusiasm), and we have at times kept a rifle in the house...

But it's interesting the differences among people. Of all my friends, I know of one who's got a permit and carries a piece for protection -- lives in a not so great section of Pittsburgh. Can't imagine parents.

The car gone through thing. Yick. This has never happened to me, nor any kind of B&E or invasion, despite having lived in some not so great places (really true, thinking of my time in L.A.). Many people in my current area leave cars unlocked with keys in, even running, esp. in parking lots in winter if it's cold enough that restarting is an issue.

Different worlds.
