I can't help but be amused when Duncan stands up to his mother when she calls. Soon he's doing a perfect imitation of Lilly and it makes me grin like an idiot. Lilly would be proud. I know I am. Once he hangs up the phone, I snicker

I let the smoke fill my lungs and close my eyes, my dad always stressed that if I ever wanted to be in office I had to stay away from all types of drugs, of course I'm young and I don't listen, I don't really want to ever run for any kind of office anyway so I figure some pot is not going to kill me

I understood what he meant when he said he wanted to stay here. I felt the same way, honestly. Nothing was waiting for us back in Neptune but secrets, lies, and more grief than either of us were ready to deal with. Dad was usually alright with me clearing out of the house during the summers and normally expected me to run off to TJ with everyone else. He'd probably be happy if I told him I just wanted to spend the summer at the beach house with my best friend. Who was I kidding? Duncan was my only real friend. I looked at him. A summer here, just me and Logan, it would be perfect. Logan and I needed some time to recconnect; to try to get back what we lost. Perfect.

"Yeah, you and me. Hasn't been just you and me in a long time has it?"

I missed it, Logan and I had been so into our seperate lives, mine with Veronica his with Lilly, sure the four of had all been close and we'd all hung out but somehow when Lilly and Veronica did their thing Logan and I just didn't, at least not all the time.

"Too bad we can't just fast forward the next three weeks huh?"

I sigh and take a drag from the bowl and close my eyes again, it's something I do, I have to take the experience and just experience it. I knew I needed to just experience things again. Logan knew it too.

"You think Shaggy is hotter than Fred?" I asked, staring at him in disbelief. It was common knowledge that Fred was the hottest. Duncan needed to lay off the weed.

He was right about his parents motivations for him attending Stanford. If you were a rich California kid, Standford was wear your parents wanted you to go. Unless they happened to be alumni for one of the East Ivy League schools.

"Yeah. I'm supposed to stay close too. In case they need publicity photos and stuff. I think personally Dad doesn't want to fork out the out of state costs. Though, I can't imagine it's much higher than what he's going to have to pay for a place out in Palo Alto for me."

Palo Alto was the computer capital of California. All that lived out there was computer geeks and Stanford students. It would be a totally different atmosphere than what we'd grown accustomed to here in neptune. I couldn't wait.

The shaggy and fred thing was starting to stir up memories of a conversation Lilly and I had once. She'd said that I was Fred, Duncan was Shaggy, she was Daphne and Veronica was Velma only hot, which when she explained it all made perfect sense.
