Sam was definitely feeling...okay, a little weird. And he was used to feeling weird. He was used to Bloody Mary bleeding him out from the inside and used to shapeshifters stealing his brother's skin and hell...used to visions.
He wasn't used to this...god, this like, yearning. And he really, really needed to see Veronica, if no one else. To the point that after breakfast, he'd dropped everything and had set out on the paths to find her.
And when he saw her in the distance, it was all he could do to just keep a normal pace, heading towards her. "Veronica," he called out, almost desperately. God, whatever was wrong with him, he just didn't want to know anymore.
The sound of someone on the path had given her pause, even in the midst of this happy haze, but it didn't last long. Looking up when she heard her name, Veronica had to bite her lip hard to keep her smile from growing too big. Any other day, she would've kicked herself for wearing her heart on her sleeve like this. Today it didn't seem to matter.
"Sam," she said when she got closer, reaching a hand out to him. "Are you alright?" Concern at his tone fought with sheer joy at seeing him, and joy won.
Sam wondered how he'd gone through his life never feeling like this, like his heart wanted to just burst. He didn't even remember a day with Jess being this bad. He took her hand and just about lost it there, blurting everything out, just at the touch of her hand, the smell of her skin and her hair.
"Hey," he exhaled, just staring down at her like he had a spell cast on him. "I'm..." He gave a nervous laugh. "I don't know what I am," he admitted, easing a bit closer to her than he normally would; his fingers twitching to touch her, just hold her.
There are moments in life that just feel perfect. This wasn't one of them: it had too much potential, too much wanting, in it for that, and she wanted to live up to all of it. Veronica couldn't remember the feel of someone's hand in hers being so right, certain her heart hadn't been racing like this the last time they'd held hands, lying on the rec room floor together. So many missed opportunities, she thought wistfully.
"Good?" she prompted hopefully, pulling at his hand to draw him even closer. "Everyone seems to be today. It's like everyone's gone..." She shrugged and laughed softly, thinking back to her conversation with George. "Twitterpated," she finished with another laugh. It was nice, though, the sudden sensation of openness.
