I saw the Sex & The City movie the other night, with my bestest buddy Monkey, who, the poor fool, had no idea the level of chick-flickery he was getting himself into when he agreed to go.

What's that? Fuck yeah, there's spoilers. Read at your own movie-ruining risk.

A few things pissed me off.

A) The implications that Charlotte wasn't really happy until she gave birth to a baby. Her adopted baby wasn't enough. Her story wasn't "finished" until she had a little white child. Back in the day, I was planning to adopt (don't get me started on THAT noise), and did a fair bit of research on it, and now I get rather pissed when people talk about adoption like it's a second-rate choice and not as fullfilling as having "your own". Even that phrase pisses me off, because bitch please! The kid's calling you mom!

B) The justification of Steve cheating on Miranda because she wasn't that into sex anymore. She had "broken a vow", you see, because she didn't want to spread her legs and think of England. IIIII'M sorry, did I miss a century?

C) Carrie's total flakeout and giving in to the whole big-wedding thing. I was glad at the end when she had her small one, even though I wouldn't have taken him back. Big was right when he called weddings a circus. Although I kinda prefer "parade".

Samantha rocked my socks in the movie. I lurved the line "I'm going to say what you're not supposed to say: I love you, but I love me more." She kicks ass. Upon turning fifty, she decides that she's not fullfilled by her life because she's based it around her boyfriend, so she gets her shit together and comes back to NYC to live on her own terms. Hells, yeah.

On that note, waaaaay to much of that movie struck home for me. Carrie suddenly finding herself getting over the man she was supposed to marry? Fucked me up. Combine that general misery with Samantha's refusal to settle, and you've got me in the audience, nudging poor Monkey ever five minutes, going "ooooh, that part of the breakup SUCKED."

Overall, worth seeing. But have a cosmo first.
