This was awesome! I wish we could have seen this played out on GA!! Arizona could definitely emphasize with Morgan and you expressed her empathy and compassion very well...so cute too at the end!
Really enjoyed this a lot! It's a good reasoning for Arizona not having mentioned Sofia and could potentially be very true I don't envision her talking about Sofia much to patients apart from the fact that it's not probably helpful or allowed but because thinking back to that time in her life probably would enable her to do her job to the best of her ability
But I loved what you did here
I loved the line of I thought you should see the joy and just having Callie wait patiently and supportive-ly in the background and Arizona being caring but yet still keeping an emotional distance for Morgan was really good characterization
Thanks for the story. Our child actually was born 15 weeks early. Our daughter was born at 25 wks and 2 days weighing 1 lb 12 oz and 13 inches long. She is now a perfect 5 year old. The drs and nurses were AWESOME, but to be honest, it was nothing like Grey's Anatomy. Micropreemies don't play by the rules and a stay in the NICU is one hell of a roller coaster ride.
I'm sorry you had to go through that, but glad that she's okay now.
Some NICU stays are smoother than others. I do agree that Grey's Anatomy painted a rosier picture than most people experience. The NICU is a really scary place. Things can be fine one day and the next, everything goes south, with no discernible cause.
Thank you for reading and sharing your experience.
Our daughter was on all three vents, had NEC, non sealing PDA, suffered a punctured lung by a surgeon, etc but after 17 weeks she came home. Now we give trainings to new NICU staff and serve as volunteers at the NICU for the family members. I think Grey's did the best it could since it is TV. It wouldn't be interesting to show parents staring at monitors watching O2 readings! I love how Arizona brought Sofia to Morgan in your story. We still bring our daughter to the NICU to let current parents see what a 25 weeker can grow up to be. It is important to let the parents know how resilient the babies are and that there is always hope! Thank you again for your story.
There was (is?) so much more room for Arizona's life in this storyline that they're sort of pushing to the side in favour of Karev so this piece is totally welcome.

There are some feelings that just don't go away easily, and the feeling that your child is slipping away from you is one of those.

I think she only went out on a limb there because she knows Morgan professionally, not just as the parent of a patient.
I'm glad you liked that.
Thank you.

Morgan needed to see the joy. And what better way to see the joy than in the face of a micropreemie who is now thriving?
