Mrs. Ferret and I saw the new Les Mis movie on Saturday, and I'm not ashamed to say I cried a little.  Okay, a lot.  Jackman and Hathaway were very good.  I dialed down expectations for Crowe to avoid disappointment.  Javert's character does provide at least one surprise.

I didn't realize how good Jackman was until I listened to My Favorite Cast Album and thought "Hey, Valjean sounds a little blah." I think Crowe's entire performance would have been better received if not for that weird growly choking thing he was doing in the first number. It must have been intentional, because it disappears entirely after that, but right off the bat it makes you skeptical that he can sing at all.
